Homage to the Goddess Altar

Homage to the Goddess Altar

I originally created this altar as an homage to the Goddess Demeter. Demeter is often described simply as the goddess of the harvest, but she also presided over the sacred law, and the cycle of life and death. She and her daughter Persephone were the central figures of the Eleusinian Mysteries and I do love anything to do with the Mysteries. However, as I was working on the final steps I was feeling deeply moved by Inanna, an ancient Goddess that was likely the Great Mother of our paleolithic ancestors. I feel called to her, so there is an ancient poem to Inanna, almost hidden, written on the inside panel.
